It’s Festival Season In The South Downs…

As we move into May, things become that much more exciting in this particularly beautiful part of the South Downs. It’s festival time !

To kick things off the Charleston Festival begins on the 13th May, less than a week away now, and runs until the 25th May. There is quite a program of conversations, live performances, writers, artists, creative workshops and more, with many well-known names attending.

Did you know that it’s possible to walk to Charleston from Flint Cottage and Alfriston ? Or, if you’re feeling less energetic, there is the Sussex Art Shuttle bus that sets off four times a day between the Towner Gallery in Eastbourne, stopping at East Dean, Seven Sisters Visitor Centre, Litlington, Alfriston, Charleston in Firle, and finally Charleston in Lewes. It runs on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays only. Click here for the latest service updates.

The Glyndebourne Festival gets underway on the 21st May, with new productions of Puccini’s Tosca and Britten’s Billy Budd, among others.

A truly amazing summer program of world class opera, performed in Glyndebourne’s indoor auditorium, with the chance to enjoy a traditional picnic in the gardens during the interval. Heavenly !

May has been extraordinarily busy at the cottage, and we have very nearly had full occupancy. But there is still some availability left at the end of the month on the 29th May, for either a long weekend or a week, going into June. We are just eight miles from Glyndebourne and about four miles from Charlestone. A perfect Sussex holiday cottage for either venue.
